~~Indigenous Art~~
The Nahuati indians of Nicaragua traveled south
from Mexico in the 10th century AD to colonise new
territory. In the 15th century they came into contact with the Aztecs and
adopted much of their culture. This mixture of ancient, pre-Columbian roots is
seen most clear within their art.
Native depictions of their favourite animals are inter-dispersed with ancient Gods and stories of hunting victories.
The pottery of San Juan de Orient is fairly traded and the money generated is used in building projects within their community.
